Zambia joins world in marking the Global Hand washing Day

Joining the world to commemorate the Global Hand washing Day, Zambia on October 15, sought to increase access to hand washing services to 100 per cent from the current 14 per cent.

The government is making several initiatives to make this move a successful one, said Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Jonas Chanda.

“The government is undertaking improvement of water and sanitation infrastructure which would improve access to hand washing services,” said the Zambian minister while speaking at the commemoration held under the theme, “Hand Hygiene for All”. He further called on to enhance public awareness regarding the same and to promote personal hygiene through hand washing.

Lauding the efforts made by Zambia for improving the water sector, the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Zambia Coumba Mar Gadio pledged the UN’s continued support to Zambia in attaining global goals of improved access to water and sanitisation.
