Observed every year on September 24, World Maritime Day is meant to understand the importance of marine environment, the well being of seafarers and the impact of industries on the oceans and marine life.
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs of the United Nations, the theme for this year’s World Maritime Day is “sustainable shipping for a sustainable planet”. The shipping industries globally are working with the support of the International Maritime Organisation towards a regulatory framework towards ensuring a sustainable future and also well being of people associated with shipping.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and its Member States are collectively working towards achieving the SDG goals. The Day is a great opportunity to generate information and spread awareness about proper management of the oceans and saving the marine environment.
