WHO to send special team to China for COVID-19 source investigation

In the latest of the measure to find the origin cause and source of the coronavirus pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) is sending a team to China next week.

WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “Knowing the source of the virus is very, very important”.

He added, “It’s science, it’s public health, we can fight the virus better when we know everything about the virus, including how it started”.

The WHO team visit will be the second visit of the health organisation officials to China, the first being the visit of the team in January. The WHO officials met with public health officials to learn about the response to the cluster of cases that had been reported.

Speaking about the augmentation in the number of cases, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “Although many countries have made some progress, globally, the pandemic is actually speeding up. We’re all in this together, and we’re all in this for the long haul.”

Experts and scientists have speculated that the virus jumped from animals to humans, possibly in a market in Wuhan, after the outbreak in China was reported in December 2019.
