Volume rises, value falls of Vietnam’s plastic imports in the first quarter

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam on April 9 reported that the country has imported over 1.5 million tonnes of plastic worth more than 2 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2020. It added that the import has showcased a year-on-year increase of 4.7 percent in volume, and decrease of 6.1 percent in value.

Per the findings of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the country has spent nearly 1.6 billion U.S. dollars importing plastic products between January and March. The import is up by 8.1 percent from the same period last year. While it added that Vietnam gained 767 million U.S. dollars from exporting plastic products that is down by 5.1 percent year-on-year basis.

About 6.4 million tonnes of plastic totalling more than nine billion U.S. dollars was imported by Vietnam in the year 2019.
