US Special Envoy visits Pakistan, discusses Afghan Peace process with Pakistani Army Chief

To discuss the peace process in Afghanistan, U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Qamar Javed Bajwa on June 7, confirms the Pakistani Military.

A statement released by the Pakistani Military stated that Zalmay Khalilzad and General Qamar Javed Bajwa discussed the overall regional security situation, including the Afghan refugee issue, Afghan reconciliation process and Pak-Afghan border management.

The statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations- the media wing of the Pakistani Army-stated, “Both shared steps taken in this regard and agreed to continue working towards mutually agreed goals.”

U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad has been visiting Pakistan as part of his mission to press for the start of the intra-Afghan dialogue. In the Month of May, Zalmay Khalilzad has visited Pakistan twice, one being on May 8 and the other on June 7. In both visit he met Army Chief, Bajwa and discussed peace efforts in Afghanistan.
