US-India relationship will not be affected by the outcome of US Presidential race, says Foreign Secretary

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, on November 4, said that the ties between India and the United States have matured to a level of no return and would not be affected by the US Presidential Election 2020.

Seeking to highlight the strong bipartisan support enjoyed by India in the United States, the senior official said, “As far as the US is concerned, we have certainly reached a level of no return. In other words, we have developed today what we call a Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. We are cooperating across the board on areas that are of mutual interest to both our countries.”

Adding further, the Foreign Secretary, who served as the Indian ambassador to the US before taking up his current post in the Ministry of External Affairs, said, “The relationship has matured. In view of the executive style under which the US operates, having a rapport between the leaders is sine qua non, cannot be done without. And, that has been the basis of the relationship since the time of President (Bill) Clinton. I do believe that will not change.”
