UN’s Sustainable Development Goals Call for more Global Cooperation

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) call for increased global cooperation. The SDGs express people’s ambitions to eradicate poverty and hunger, offer universal access to health and education, safeguard the environment, eliminate discrimination against girls and women, and build 21st-century infrastructure.

They are attainable goals, but they will necessitate considerably more global cooperation and investment for low-income nations. The G20 should assume responsibility for ensuring the SDGs’ success.

The first aim of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, known as SDG 1, is to eliminate poverty. China completed the agenda’s poverty eradication aim earlier this year, about ten years ahead of schedule. China’s feat in eradicating absolute poverty throughout the country is a stunning achievement.

China has made significant investments in people, infrastructure, and economic development, and Africa should quickly follow this path. But   Africa, on the other hand, requires more funding to do this.

As our world continues to face very serious difficulties, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated on Oct. 11 that the SDGs are in grave danger of failing. He warned that the effort lacked solidarity.

Solidarity is critical and the world’s counties need to work together to make the path to sustainable development much clearer, avoid a dangerous new arms race and conflicts that could endanger humanity, and pool resources to help the world’s poorest and most vulnerable countries in a coordinated manner.

The United States and China should expand on their co-chairing of the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group to form a high-level SDG Working Group. We might indeed abolish poverty, starvation, and misery in the globe in a remarkably short amount of time if the US, China, and the EU committed entirely to working closely together for the fulfillment of the SDGs.
