UNICEF Warns that 1 billion Children at Risk Due to Climate Change

In a report released on Thursday, UNICEF stated that almost one billion children worldwide are at high risk from the effects of the climate catastrophe.

According to UNICEF “Climate change threatens the health, education, and protection of children, particularly those in the Central African Republic, Chad, and Nigeria, among other countries”.

The report evaluates countries based on children’s exposure to climate and environmental shocks, such as cyclones and heatwaves, as well as their sensitivity to those shocks, based on access to basic services.

UNICEF has cautioned that as the effects of climate change worsen, the number of children at risk will likely rise, and it is urging countries to strengthen investment in climate change and vital children’s programs.
