The head of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has said that he was concern by the shifting of Rohingya refugees en masse from Cox Bazaar camp to a new Island and said that such relocation must be based on consensus and not forced on the Rohingyas.
Grandi tweeted: “I am concerned by reports of #Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh being moved to Bhasan Char. UNHCR and UN partners seek access to them in order to hear their voices, understand their wishes and see conditions on the island. Any transfer must follow a voluntary, informed decision”.
Nearly 900,000 Rohingya refugees live in the Cox’s Bazar settlements.
