UNHCR appeals for 79 million USD assistance for refugees in Jordon

In order to extend humanitarian assistance to the refugees affected by the COVID-19 crisis in Jordan, the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) has appealed for 79 million U.S. dollars assistance.

The UNHCR has donated 1.2 million dollars to the Jordanian Ministry of Health as part of the government’s national response plan so as to aid the government in purchase of essential medical equipment, delivering medicine to refugees’ homes, and maintaining the operation of essential services, including medical clinics and hospitals.

The UNHCR has been continuing to protect refugees across the country by providing remote counselling, legal aid and protection services for those who have experienced violence, despite the travel restrictions in Jordon.

The UN agency said, around 18,000 vulnerable refugee families will receive a one-off emergency cash assistance, since this week, to cope with the economic impact of COVID-19.
