The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has handed over 55 laptops to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Justice, so that remote court hearings through the digital medium may be facilitated. The laptops are to be used to facilitate the expansion of remote court hearings in the courts identified by the Judicial Service Commission, the Ministry said.
According to a tweet by UNDP in Sri Lanka (@)UNDPSriLanka), “Increased vulnerabilities created by the pandemic have led to a surge in legal needs. Access to legal services & information remains critical now more than ever. People & their rights must be front & center in #COVID19 response & recovery. We are happy to extend @UNDP’s support to the Ministry of Justice in #SriLanka to bring about digital transformation in the justice sector & to build smarter justice systems which will strengthen service delivery of the justice administrations & enhance #AccessToJustice for all”.
