UN Deputy Secretary-General embarks on a two-week visit to West Africa and Sahel

In a move of showing solidarity with the West Africa and the Sahel amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed is on a two-week visit to West Africa and the Sahel.

Beginning her mission in Nigeria on November 9, Mohammed met with President Muhammadu Buhari, following which she also joined the country’s Vice-President and U.N. colleagues at a launch of the U.N. Plus Offer.

During an address at a press briefing from the U.N. Headquarters in New York, UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said, “She will emphasize the sustainable development programmes that promote socio-economic recovery, gender equality, intergenerational leadership, resilience, climate action—as well as the delivery of lifesaving humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable.”
