UK announces quarantine for passengers from Italy, Vatican City and San Marino

As of October 18, 04:00 BST, the U.K. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has announced mandatory two-week quarantine for travellers returning to the country from Italy, Vatican City and San Marino.

Adding further, Shapps also announced on October 15 that travellers returning from the Greek island of Crete will no longer need to self-isolate.

The move to add Italy to the quarantine list is another blow to UK’s travel industry as Italy was one of the last major markets that mandated no quarantine for returning holidaymakers.

The announcement regarding this came after Italy reported its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 infections since the outbreak of the pandemic.
