Uganda’s electoral body concludes 2-day presidential nomination exercise

With the two-day presidential nomination exercise, having been concluded on November 3, Uganda’s electoral body cleared 11 candidates to run in the 2021 general elections.

While five aspirants were nominated on political party tickets, six were nominated as independents, said Justice Simon Byabakama, chairperson of the Electoral Commission in a televised address.

“The commission would like to congratulate the political parties which have sponsored candidates as well as independent candidates who have successfully been nominated,” he added.

The duly nominated candidates include incumbent President Yoweri Tibahaburwa Kaguta Museveni, 24-year-old John Katumba and Nancy Linda Kalembe, the only female candidate while others include former Security minister Henry Tumukunde, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, music pop star Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, former army commander Mugisha Muntu, Norbert Mao, Joseph Kabuleta Kiiza, Fred Mwesigye and Willy Mayambala.
