Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine says he and his team have been arrested

On December 30, the official twitter account of Uganda opposition leader and one of the major Presidential elections candidate Bobi Wine tweeted that “Bobi Wine and his entire campaign team arrested in Kalangala! Media blocked.” As news of his arrest spread, his supporters began protesting. Bobi Wine was arrested in  the Kalangala district.

“Kalangala is not one of the districts where campaigns were banned,” said Joel Senyonyi, spokesperson of Wine’s National Unity Platform party or NUP. “So, he went to campaign, but to his shock when he got there, the military surrounded him and arrested the entire team, 90 of them. Took them to different places. We understand he’s being airlifted, we don’t know to where.”
