UAE refers 129 Quarantine defenders to Attorney-General

Those who failed to adhere to the quarantine and isolation measures put at place by the UAE authorities to curb the spread of the COVID-19 have been referred to the Attorney-General. The total number of people who have endangered the lives of the larger public with their negligence totals to 129.

The Chief of the Emergency and Crisis Prosecution said, “First-time offenders will be fined AED 50,000 once a report is filed and the offender is informed of his or her violation. The fine shall be doubled to AED 100,000 for second-time offenders. If the violation is committed for the third time, they will be referred to the Emergency and Crisis Prosecution at the Federal Public Prosecution and will be tried and jailed for a minimum of three years or fined a minimum of AED 100,000 as per the law”.

He further said, “Should the violator fail to pay the fine, the judiciary will be notified to register the offence in the e-criminal system, at the Ministry of Interior, or at local police departments, to collect the fine from him or her in a legal manner”.
