UAE eager to collaborate with the United Nations

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed stressed that the UAE supports the United Nations and looks forward to cooperating with it in numerous domains.

He stressed that the UAE strived for peace and security, as well as supporting regional and international development and prosperity.

Sheikh Mohammed made the remarks during a phone chat with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, a day after the UAE declared its intention to serve on the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member for the 2022-23 term.

Guterres congratulated Sheikh Mohammed on the UAE’s election to the world body and wished him luck in his new role, which will allow him to serve the international community.

The UN Secretary-General also lauded Emirati humanitarian and development efforts in support of international peace and development.

The crown prince congratulated Guterres on being re-elected as UN Secretary-General for a second term, which began on January 3.

He also praised the United Nations and its Secretary-General for their vital contributions to world peace and security.

During the call, the two leaders discussed various elements of UAE-UN collaboration and exchanged perspectives on international and regional topics of mutual interest, especially the Middle East situation.

For the second time in its history, the UAE was elected as a non-permanent member of the 15-member Security Council in June, and its inaugural meeting was held on January 4. The country will chair the council twice during its mandate, in March of this year and June of 2023.
