U.S. President Donald Trump hosts Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, focus on Iraq’s stability and security

The White House on August 20 informed that U.S. President Donald Trump is hosting Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi for talks that will majorly focus on the stability and security of Iraq and will furthermore look forward to explore ways to boost the nation’s economy.

Iraq’s Kurdistan region, which an administration official termed as a “critical component of a stable, sovereign Iraq” will be another topic on agenda, according to the White House. Referring to the Kurdistan Regional Government, the official said, “Our most acute conversation point in this visit is to make sure that the resources available to the Baghdad central government also find their way to the KRG.”

A senior administration official, ahead of the meeting, said, “Because we’re working towards economic prosperity as well as freedom from foreign meddling in its internal affairs, improved relationships with neighbours is also a critical part of the conversation.”
