Tensions rise between Israel, Hamas over annexation plan

The tensions seem to rise between Israel and Gaza rulers Hamas over former’s plan to annex parts of the occupied West Bank. The army said that Israel retaliated by air and tank fire on Monday, June 15, against Hamas positions after a rocket was fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip.

A rocket had been fired from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip “into Israel”, the first such incident to happen in more than a month, said the Israeli Army. “Airplanes targeted Hamas infrastructure” in southern Gaza and “tanks targeted (its) military posts,” it added. The attacks at Hamas targets have been confirmed by Palestinian security sources.

The tensions arose after Hamas called for unity among Palestinians and “resistance” against Israel’s annexation plans. Hamas official Salah al-Bardawil, on Monday, June 15, had said, “We call for the annexation project to be confronted with resistance in all forms.”
