In the wake of the COVID-19 cases that are back on the rise, Switzerland, on August 12, announced that it was extending the ban on mass gatherings by another month, as per which, the gatherings of more than 1,000 will be restricted until October 1.
In a statement issued by the Swiss government, it said that it “intends to ensure that the epidemiological situation in Switzerland does not deteriorate.” “This careful reopening step takes into account the needs of society and the economic interests of sports clubs and cultural venues,” it added.
It must be noted that the ban on events gathering more than 1,000 people was due to expire on August 31 but now has been extended until October 1 with the government spelling out the conditions in which they could return.
Switzerland, a country of 8.5 million people, has reported 37,079 cases of COVID-19 along with 1,713 fatalities.
