Stringent COVID-19 restrictions measures imposed in Germany; most shops to be closed from December 16- January 10

In view of the rising cases of COVID-19 in the country, Germany will undergo a strict lockdown starting December 16 and ending January 10. Majority of shops will be closed during this period. This was announced by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel on December 13. 

“The measures which we began on November 2 have not been enough,” Merkel said after a meeting with federal and state leaders. Merkel said there was “an urgent need to take action”. 

Only essential shops such as supermarkets and pharmacies, as well as banks, will remain open Schools will also be closed during this lockdown.
