State government in Melaka, Malaysia stops controversial port project

The Melaka state  government in Malaysia has terminated a land reclamation agreement to build three islands in the RM43 billion Melaka Gateway project.

The project was initially a venture between little-known Malaysian company KAJ Development – of which Datuk Ong is CEO – and China’s PowerChina International. It involved the reclamation of three islands off Melaka, two of which would be man-made.

The Chief Minister’s Office said  that the agreement with property developer KAJ Development Sdn Bhd, signed in October 2017, had expired on Oct 3.
