Officials in Somalia have officially confirmed the killing of 37 Al-Shabaab extremists in a fierce fight in the outskirts of Hudur town in the southern region of Bakol by the Somali National Army (SNA) on June 6.

Odawa Yusuf Rage, Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA) said on June 7 that the military conducted operations in the region after receiving intelligence of the militants’ presence in the area.

Confirming of the recovery of weapons from the militants, Odawa Yusuf Rage added, “Our forces inflicted severe casualties on the militants, killing 37 of them, including the militants’ leader in Hudur area.”

The Somalian government has strengthened its battle against the extremists and Al-Shabaab militants in the southern region of the country, where the militants still hold swathes of rural areas and conduct ambushes and plant land mines to target the government forces.
