Seven day snap lockdown in Victoria, Australia to start today

Starting today, the Australian province of Victoria will go into circuit-breaker lockdown for seven days from 11.59pm local time after the state recorded 12 new cases of COVID-19.

Stay-at-home orders will apply to Melbourne and surrounding Victoria state from midnight for seven days, acting state Premier James Merlino told residents.

“In the last day, we’ve seen more evidence we’re dealing with a highly infectious strain of the virus, a variant of concern, which is running faster than we have ever recorded,” Merlino said.
