Sanctions imposed on Mali lifted by ECOWAS

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has lifted the sanctions it imposed on Mali after a military coup in the country.

In a communique, ECOWAS cited “significant advances” toward a return to democracy in Mali, noting the selection of a civilian president and prime minister to head the process.

On September 28, Mali’s Interim President Ba N’dou named former Malian foreign Minister Moctar Ouane as the Prime Minister in the country

Taking into consideration these important decisions for the normalization of constitutional order in Mali, ECOWAS has decided to lift the sanctions,” the communique signed by ECOWAS Chairman and Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said.
