Amidst boycott by the opposition, regional elections in Cameroon were held on December 6. These were the first ever regional elections held in Cameroon. The Cameroon government declared the boycott by the opposition as a sham.
Local representatives voted to appoint councils in all 10 regions made up of delegates and traditional rulers. To put in exact numbers, 24,000-strong electoral college made up of regional delegates and traditional chiefs will vote to fill the posts of 900 regional councillors – 90 for each of the country’s 10 regions.
