Protests in Greece banned for a week

The Greece government has imposed a ban on protests in the country citing health concerns. All gatherings of more than 100 people have been banned. The ban comes as two protests by the extreme left and anarchic groups planned for Friday and next Monday respectively in support of the ex-leader of the 17 November group, the 59-year-old Dimitris Koufontinas, and against a new urban plan.

The main opposition party, the left-wing Syriza, called the ban “arbitrary and undemocratic,” while the Greek Communist Party said it would continue to support student demonstrations planned later this week.
