Dai Bing, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, on October 13, urged the nations in Africa’s Great Lakes Region to promote peace and development in the region.
“China calls on countries in the region to build consensus, strengthen cooperation and turn challenges into opportunity with a view to achieving regional peace, stability, and common development at an early date,” said he.
The Chinese envoy added further that over the recent years, the situation in the Great Lakes Region including Kenya has improved and has given a rare window of opportunity for peace and development.
China has been a good friend and partner of countries in the Great Lakes Region and has actively participated in the UN peacekeeping operations in the region. With its firm commitment, China is further ready to work with the international community in making unremitting efforts toward peace, stability and prosperity of the region.
