Top officials of the Health Ministry have been suspended in Botswana in the midst of a state of emergency and lockdown in the country for COVID-19 outbreak.
The statement released by the Presidency on April 23 stated that Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi has dismissed the Permanent Secretary Solomon Sekwakya in the Ministry of Health and the Deputy Permanent Secretary Morrison Sinvula with immediate effect from April 21.
The statement didn’t elaborate the reason for the removal of the ministers.
Solomon Sekwakya is an economist who earlier served in the Ministry of Finance before being transferred to the Health Ministry in November 2019.
The suspended ministers didn’t give any official comment on their dismissal.
Botswana like many other African countries has been taking measures to stem the spread of the coronavirus so as to support the health care system of the nation.
