On March 6, Pope Francis arrived in Iraq. The visit is historic as it marks the first time the Pope is visiting a foreign country since the pandemic began. The trip will last for 4 days.
“With love and peace, Iraq’s people and government are welcoming His Holiness Pope Francis and reaffirming the depths of this humanitarian bond,” Kadhimi said ahead of the pope’s arrival.
According to media reports, the Pope will pray for the victims of the conflict with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which left thousands of civilians dead.
