PM Oli expelled from Communist Party in Nepal

In a major political development in Nepal, the caretaker Prime Minister KP Oli was removed from ruling Nepal Communist Party by a Central Committee Meeting of the splinter party.

“His membership has been revoked,” a spokesperson for the splinter group, Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

This will further create a rift with the Prachanda faction.

On 20 December 2020 President Bidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the House of Representatives as per advice of the prime minister KP Sharma Oli.The sixth session of Federal Parliament was abruptly ended on 9 July 2020. According to Article 93(1) of the Constitution, the interval between two sessions of parliament should not be more than 6 months. Due to internal conflict in the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), KP Sharma Oli recommended the dissolution before a no-confidence motion could be tabled.
