Philippines closes border to foreigners as COVID-19 cases surge

Philippines has decided to close its borders to foreigners in the light of COVID-19 surge. The ban on overseas arrivals was announced late on Tuesday (Mar 16) by the government’s COVID-19 task force and takes effect on Mar 20.

There are exemptions for accredited officials of foreign governments, Filipino workers returning from overseas and cases that are considered an emergency.

Overseas Filipino workers will be exempt, but the number of passenger arrivals will be limited to 1,500 a day, it said.
