Pakistan to ease coronavirus lockdown measures

Over the issue of relaxation in lockdown measures, Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting of top government officials on May 7.

The Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to relax restrictions on public and industrial activities.

Post the meeting, PM Imran Khan said, “We know our curve of infections and deaths (from COVID-19) is gradually rising. But the rate of increase is relatively very low in Pakistan”.

He added, “Why are we going ahead to ease the lockdown? Because people in our country, particularly daily wagers, small shopkeepers, taxi drivers, laborers, white-collar families are all facing an extremely difficult situation to feed their families”.

Pakistan is facing extreme difficulty in balancing the health crisis and the resulted economic crash and the ease in lockdown measures is a way to protect its dwindling economy.
