Over alleged human rights violation, US imposes sanctions on Iran

Over the alleged human rights violations, the United States on September 24, blacklisted several Iranian officials and entities and slapped sanctions on a judge, who, it said, had involvement in the case of an Iranian wrestler sentenced to death.

The move comes three days the United States said to reinstate all international sanctions against Iran single-handedly if other UN member countries failed to do so. Speaking about the move, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, “If UN Member States fail to fulfill their obligations to implement these sanctions, the United States is prepared to use our domestic authorities to impose consequences for those failures and ensure that Iran does not reap the benefits of UN-prohibited activity.”

It must be noted that Iran and other members of the international community has rejected the unilateral declaration.
