Novavax enters supply deal with India’s Serum Institute for its COVID-19 vaccine candidate

Novavax Inc. and Serum Institute of India have signed a supply and license agreement on August 5, for the development and commercialization of its COVID-19 vaccine candidate. As per an SEC filing by Novavax, the agreement was signed by the two on July 30.

During the term of the deal, the Indian drug maker will have exclusive rights for the vaccine in India while it will enjoy non-exclusive rights during the “Pandemic Period” in all countries other than those designated as upper-middle or high-income countries by the World Bank.

On August 4, Novavax reported that its COVID-19 vaccine candidate, in a small, early-stage clinical trial, produced high levels of antibodies against the novel Coronavirus and that the large pivotal Phase III trial of the vaccine could be started as soon as late September.
