Nigeria’s Chief of Staff to the President succumbs to COVID-19

Nigeria’s Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, has succumbed to COVID-19 on April 17. The news was confirmed by the President’s Spokesperson on April 18.

Garba Shehu, Spokesperson of the President of Nigeria said, “The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari. The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020”.

Abba Kyari, was undergoing treatment in the Lagos and was shifted there from the capital Abuja when he was diagnosed with coronavirus which he is believed to have contracted while on official duty in Germany.

Abba Kyari was a close aide to President Muhammadu Buhari and a very influential figure in the Nigerian government. His death has come out to be a great loss to the country.
