Nigeria extends nationwide lockdown for four weeks as it continues fight against COVID-19

As Nigeria continues its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has announced to extend the second phase of nationwide lockdown for further four weeks.

Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 made the announcement regarding the same, at a Task Force briefing in Abuja.

This comes as the third extension for the second phase of an eased lockdown in country’s efforts to contain the spread of the deadly virus in the West African country. Being one of the worst affected countries in Africa by the COVID-19 pandemic, Nigeria has reported 44,890 infections and 927 deaths, with which it has become the third most affected nation in the continent.
