Nigeria confiscates a private British aircraft for breaking travel ban rules

A private British aircraft has been confiscated by Nigerian authorities for contravening the flight ban in the country. The travel ban has been put to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Nigeria has put a ban on all passenger flights into the country, with the exception of ones to evacuate people or repatriate Nigerian citizens. The ban is also not applicable for flights engaged in essential services, such as the delivery of food supplies and items for humanitarian use. The ban is at place till at least June 4.

The news has been confirmed by Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika via his twitter account on May 17.

Hadi Sirika said that a UK company had been given approval for humanitarian operations but had been caught conducting commercial flights. He said that a plane had been impounded after the rules were broken.

The tweet added, the aircraft was impounded, the crew was interrogated and a maximum penalty would be imposed.
