New Unity government in Libya sworn

On March 15, Libya’s new unity government headed by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh was sworn in before the Libyan parliament in Tobruk city in eastern Libya.

“I swear by God almighty to perform my duties with honesty and sincerity,” said Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh, taking the oath of office in front of members of parliament.

Earlier, Dbeibeh’s government took the constitutional oath before the High Court in the capital Tripoli before heading to Tobruk.

His new government will replace the Government of National Unity (GNA), which was recognized by the United Nations and controlled Tripoli and northwest Libya, and a rival administration based in the east.
