North Korea in lieu with the strengthening of its military capabilities has tested the super-large multiple rocket launchers on March 29 off its east coast, as per reports by its official KCNA news agency. The reports said that the test was a success. It was conducted at the Academy of National Defense Science.
The latest test was aimed at examining the tactical and technical features of the “super-large multiple rocket launchers” that are being tested since August under the leadership of Kim Jong Un. The ruling party Vice Chairman Ri Pyong Chol led the launch in the absence of Kim Jong Un and said, “The operational deployment of the weapon system of super-large multiple rocket launchers is a crucial work of very great significance in realizing the party’s new strategic intention for national defense”.
The move was criticised by South Korea that stated it to be “inappropriate” amidst the corona crisis.
North Korea resumed the tests after a three-month break and the recent test was the fourth round in the month of March itself.
