Nepal releases ‘National Water Resources Policy-2077’

On December 17, the Government of Nepal released the ‘National Water Resources Policy-2077’. The policy is aimed at ensuring an equitable and sustainable development of water resources. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Barshaman Pun remarked that the formulation of the policy took four years of deliberations. Pun said that the policy has helped to integrated all the water resource agenda in single documents. He added the policy is comprehensive and clearly defined utilization of water for different purposes.

The Minister was hopeful policy would help the government’s ‘Happy Nepali: Prosperous Nepal’ campaign and the implementation of the constitutional provision that all three levels of the government should be able to utilise water resources responsibly. The policy has seven objectives and 11 targets.
