NAM’s relevance in a multipolar world

The war child of a world driven by antagonism between the USA and the Soviet Union and their allies in 1960’s, NAM had been the means for the developing republics to assert their independence amongst the contending superpowers. But with the long over Cold-War the need for the Movement to persist in the contemporary world has raised a question on its importance and application in the future run.
The world might have somehow survived the threat of mutually assured destruction of the Cold War. But in the approaching unipolar world, which is an outrageous rebirth of neo-colonialism, destabilisation of sovereign independent nations, aggression, regime changes through brutal use of force, and return to destructive diplomacy – the very reasons that motivated the birth of the movement in the early 1960’s – will be again in need of a strong movement to stand up to bring a halt to this impendingdoom.
If the 20th century world was one that witnessed liberation from colonial domination, 21st century is fraught with the threat of establishment of neo-colonial powers once again headed by Britan, France and the US, unless they are interrupted with a drive of diversity.
In this phase of acute crisis the world can’t do without NAM, asserting its relevance. It can play a big role in controlling and regulating the present environment with its governing principles and preventing the contemporary multicultural world to diminish into a pitfall of uncertainty.
The relevance of NAM in the present world scenario can be traced from the following points-

It protect it from the huge and influential power in the international sphere, so if disputes arises between developed and developing nation at any point of concerned topic then NAM act as platform which negotiates and conclude disputes peacefully securing a favourable decision for each member nation.
8. Emerging alternative world power —NAM with passage of time has emerged as the alternative world power with its strength and its motive to democratize the international system. Promoting equality and peace all over the world and even provide new dynamics to the existing world’s politics.

Although the cold war has ended there is still no end to in-justice. In fact cold war has assumed a new dimension in the contemporary world with the recent emergence of the on-going confrontation between US and Russia over issues like eastward expansion of NATO, Kosovo’s independence as well the Georgian crisis. As long as there is the possibility of reappearance of war and turmoil in the scene of world affairs, peace making remains a continuous process, which will be pursued every time by the non-aligned forces.
