The rebel Karen ethnic group in Myanmar claim that they captured a Myanmar army base, near the country’s border with Thailand, A spokesman for the Karen National Union (KNU) said that the group on 27th April attacked the base at 5 a.m. and burned it down.
The Bangkok Post has quoted some eyewitnesses living in Thailand near the border with Myanmar. “We could hear from the other side, we could hear the bullets,” said Hkara, a long-time resident of Mae Sam Laep in Thailand’s northwestern province of Mae Hong Son. Hkara is ethnic Karen and only has one name.
“We saw five or six Burmese soldiers run down to the river and then we saw KNU shoot them but it was very dark,” she said .
