Mozambique prolongs lockdown, militant attack foiled by security forces

A militant attack against the village of Nacoba, in Metuge district, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado has been foiled by the Mozambican defence and security forces.

The militants burnt down a tourist camp that constituted of 20 huts and 15 cows, and were being used by the Quirimbas National Park. The decisive and prompt action taken by the Mozambican defence and security forces prevented any human casualties.

Pre-notice was given to the villagers about the attack that resulted in most of them fleeing away.

Meanwhile, in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus infections, Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi has prolonged by a month the state of emergency in the country that is in place since April 1.
