Moldova Agroindbank receives 25 million euros from the EEBRD and EU to support SMEs’ investment

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced that it is partnering with the European Union(EU) to provide Moldova-Agroindbank (MAIB) with a financial package worth up to 25 million euros ($28 million) to finance investments by local small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs).

The package comprises a 20 million euro facility in which the EBRD will share MAIB’s exposures to local firms through unfunded risk-sharing participation, which is similar to giving a guarantee.

The EU4Business-EBRD credit line will also provide MAIB with a 5 million euro loan for on-lending to local businesses.

The funds will be used to update products and services to meet EU standards, increase local competitiveness, and take advantage of international trade opportunities. At least 70% of the financing is intended to be used to fund green technology developments.

Under the EU4Business project, the EU is supporting the EBRD finance with grants and free technical help to borrowers. Since its inception in 2016, the initiative has assisted more than 350 Moldovan enterprises.
