Lives lost, made homeless, property damaged as flash floods wreak havoc in Tanzania

The officials on January 13 confirmed that at least one person has been killed while more than 35 have been made homeless and more than 110 houses have been damaged due to the flash floods in Tanzania’s southern region of Mtwara. Apart from this, the heavy rains in the region have submerged over 310 houses in water.

“The floods have left 39 people homeless, damaged 117 houses and 315 houses were submerged in water,” said Mtwara regional commissioner Gelasius Byakanwa.

The victim who was riding on a motorcycle was swept away by the flash floods in the Mtwara-Mikindani municipality, said Christina Sunga, Mtwara regional commander of Fire and Rescue Force.
