Lesotho’s PM Thomas Thabane steps down from the office

After days of uncertainty over the resignation of the Prime Minister of the landlocked Kingdom of Lesotho over charges of murder of his ex-wife, Prime Minister Thomas Thabane has announced that he will step down from his office.

The decision comes in the wake of the augmenting political pressure in the country as well as from its neighbours. Prime Minister Thomas Thabane’s party has announced that the new premier would be sworn in on May 20. The current Finance Minister, Moeketsi Majoro, seems to be the potential PM candidate.

Both Prime Minister Thomas Thabane and his current wife denies charges of being involved in the murder of his ex-wife in the month of February.

Prime Minister Thomas Thabane announced the news of his steeping down to his supporters in his Abia home constituency on the outskirts of the capital Maseru. He said, “I decided to personally come and inform you that I am stepping down as Prime Minister of Lesotho”.

The Parliament of Lesotho is to reconvene on May 22, when the new government is expected to be inaugurated.
