Latvia to lead the Development of Crimea Platform at the UN

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgar Rinkvis promises that the Republic of Latvia’s government has concrete proposals for the growth of the Crimea Platform, particularly inside the UN. 

Rinkvis stated that they had specific plans for the Crimea Platform’s development. Egils Levits, President of the Republic of Latvia, is the originator. He is a highly skilled lawyer who has served as a judge on the European Union’s Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights. Levits wants to keep the Crimea Platform’s focus at the United Nations. He emphasizes the necessity of the non-recognition of occupation policy. 

According to the politician, efforts must be taken to establish the non-recognition of Crimea’s occupation as a legal and political actuality, and this subject must be discussed and raised frequently within the UN, the OSCE, and other regional organizations. 

Latvia’s Saeima is likewise prepared to participate actively in the Crimea Platform. A huge international symposium on the takeover of Crimea as an example of a violation of international law is planned in particular.
