Last patient of Ebola recovers in DRC, WHO to start the 42-day counting

While COVID-19 posing a serious threat across the globe, the Democratic Republic of Congo is also dealing with the Ebola crisis that adds to its miseries and has strained its healthcare infrastructure.

While the authorities have continued their search for the escapee, the latest Ebola patient was discharged from hospital on April 26 in in Beni, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

A seven-year-old girl was discharged from the Ebola Treatment Centre (ETC) in Beni, where she was admitted on April 13. According to the WHO she was the last patient.

“No new confirmed case of Ebola virus disease has been notified for the 7th consecutive day,” the WHO added.

The WHO have to wait for additional 42 days that is double the incubation period of 21 days to declare the country Ebola free.

Beni Deputy Mayor Modeste Bakwanamaha said, “We are going to start counting the 42 days from the moment we find the escapee who escaped from the response teams.”
