Japan’s Fukushima explosion claims one life, leaves at least 18 injured

In an explosion that rocked a restaurant in Koriyama City in Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture on July 30 morning, at least one person was found dead while the incident left 18 others injured.

As per the local fire fighters, the explosion took place at around 9 a.m. local time and it is believed that the explosion occurred due to a gas leak in the restaurant which closed for renovation. Adding further, the emergency personnel said that there were six gas cylinders in the restaurant, of which three had broken valves and leaked gas.

The entire restaurant building has been destroyed in the incident while several other neighbouring structures have also fallen prey to it.

The fire has been put out while an investigation has been launched in the matter which is underway. At least 18 have been injured, of which two are in critical condition.
